Mercor is seeking a skilled Québec French Audio Generalist Evaluator to support a high-impact AI audio research project with a leading research lab. This short-term, structured engagement involves transcription, annotation, and evaluation tasks that help train and benchmark advanced language models. Ideal for candidates with strong academic or analytical backgrounds who are fluent in Québec French (fr-CA) and English.

Key Responsibilities

Transcribe and Optimize Audio & Video

  • Listen to, analyze, and transcribe audio and video content in Québec French (fr-CA) following detailed guidelines.
  • Produce high-quality written outputs in Québec French, with supporting work in English as needed.
  • Capture nuances such as tone, intent, formal vs. informal register, regional expressions, and spoken Québécois variations.

Define and Document Evaluation Standards

  • Establish clear expectations for correct and high-quality responses in general consumer audio contexts.
  • Develop detailed evaluation rubrics and grading guidelines in both Québec French and English.
  • Identify linguistic nuances, grammatical complexities, colloquialisms, and edge cases specific to Québec French.

Conduct Model Testing and Grading

  • Run prompts through language models and assess generated outputs against predefined criteria.
  • Evaluate responses for accuracy, completeness, fluency, and instructional clarity.
  • Provide structured feedback to improve model performance in Québec French audio tasks.

Support Benchmarking and Quality Assurance

  • Participate in QA and review cycles to ensure tasks, rubrics, and outputs meet Mercor's quality standards.
  • Collaborate with project leads to resolve ambiguities and improve task design.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Québec French (fr-CA) — spoken and written — and professional fluency in English.
  • Strong familiarity with Québécois spoken language, regional vocabulary, accents, and contemporary usage.
  • Ability to accurately transcribe and analyze Québec French audio content across general consumer contexts.
  • Strong writing, editing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines; available 10–20 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College students or recent graduates welcome.
  • Background in linguistics, humanities, social sciences, journalism, translation/localization, or technical disciplines.
  • Prior experience with transcription, annotation, localization, or evaluation workflows in Québec French.
  • Familiarity with differences between Metropolitan French and Québec French.
  • Interest in AI, language models, or applied research environments.

Application Process

Complete a short AI-led interview (approximately 15 minutes). Selected candidates will be onboarded and invited to begin project work promptly.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
