Regulatory Law Expert at Mercor

Regulatory Law Expert | $100–120/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs on Project Atlas — an initiative to build realistic enterprise environments where frontier AI agents are trained and evaluated. We're seeking experienced regulatory attorneys from AmLaw 100 firms and Fortune 500 in-house regulatory/compliance teams to recreate the digital workspaces they use daily and design tasks that genuinely challenge state-of-the-art AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Build a high-fidelity digital workspace mirroring your real regulatory practice — including rule comment letters, regulatory-change analyses, exam/investigation responses, compliance memos, enforcement-defense briefs, and email threads, along with representations of platforms like Westlaw/LexisNexis, Refinitiv World-Check, and CUBE
• Design multi-step tasks grounded in real regulatory workflows — covering end-to-end matters such as regulatory-change analysis, rule-making advocacy, examinations/investigations, enforcement defense, and compliance-program design
• Collaborate asynchronously with fellow regulatory attorneys and research teams to refine task designs, evaluation criteria, and scenario realism
• Contribute directly to frontier AI research and benchmarking — your work informs how leading labs train and evaluate next-generation AI systems

Ideal Qualifications

• JD with active bar admission
• 3+ years of full-time regulatory experience at an AmLaw 100 firm or Fortune 500 in-house regulatory/compliance team
• Expertise in one or more regulatory areas:
  • Financial services (SEC, FINRA, CFTC, OCC, Fed, CFPB, state DFS)
  • Healthcare (FDA, CMS, HHS OIG, state health agencies)
  • Energy (FERC, NRC, state PUCs)
  • Telecom/tech (FCC, FTC, state attorneys general)
  • Environmental, consumer product, or food-and-drug regulation
• Day-to-day proficiency with Westlaw/LexisNexis, Refinitiv World-Check/Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, and CUBE
• Strong analytical and writing skills — able to translate complex regulatory workflows into structured task specifications

Compensation

This engagement begins at an effective hourly rate of $100–$120/hr, with a planned transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality output.
