Research PhD (STEM) – Remote, Part-Time
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research lab to recruit exceptional PhDs and PhD candidates from STEM disciplines. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact AI advancements by rigorously evaluating and enhancing state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs) within specialized scientific and technical domains.
Critically evaluate the accuracy, depth, and relevance of AI-generated responses specific to your domain.
Design, curate, and assess complex, domain-specific tasks to comprehensively benchmark model capabilities.
Provide insightful and structured feedback on model performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Collaborate closely with AI research teams to pinpoint model limitations and propose actionable enhancements.
Contribute to creating benchmark datasets and refining evaluation protocols to drive ongoing improvements.
Current PhD candidate or holder of a PhD in STEM disciplines such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, or related fields.
In-depth familiarity with contemporary research trends and open questions within your specialized domain.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, especially in evaluating scientific reasoning, technical accuracy, and data-driven insights.
Exceptional attention to detail coupled with excellent written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and asynchronously, effectively collaborating within remote research teams.
Flexible and Remote: Part-time position (15–40 hours/week), fully asynchronous, allowing work from any location at your convenience.
Competitive Compensation: Hourly rates between $35 and $60, depending on expertise and specific domain knowledge.
Payment: Weekly payments via Stripe Connect, managed through Mercor as an hourly contractor.
