Research Scientist – Formal Methods / Computational Science | $100–$170/hr | Worldwide Remote

AFTERQUERY is assembling a research cohort of senior domain experts in formal methods and computational science to evaluate how frontier AI models reason through complex, expert-level problems. This is a high-impact research and evaluation role — not production engineering — where your deep expertise directly shapes what "correct" and "excellent" look like.

About the Role

You'll work alongside other leading specialists spanning mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology to assess AI model reasoning on hard, real-world problems. Your primary responsibilities include defining quality benchmarks, authoring structured technical feedback, and providing expert-level evaluation of model outputs in your domain.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate frontier AI model responses to expert-level problems in your field
• Define and document standards for correctness and excellence in your domain
• Author clear, structured technical explanations and feedback
• Collaborate asynchronously with a distributed team of senior researchers

Required Qualifications

• Currently or recently active in formal methods, computational science, or a related discipline — hands-on experience required, not purely academic-adjacent
• Strong written communication skills; able to produce rigorous technical explanations and structured evaluations
• Comfortable working independently in an asynchronous, remote environment
