MICRO1 is seeking an experienced Security Onion Specialist to join a dynamic cybersecurity team on a contract basis. This is a fully remote opportunity ideal for a skilled professional with deep expertise in Security Onion and network security monitoring.

Role Overview

As a Security Onion Specialist, you will be responsible for deploying, managing, and optimizing Security Onion environments to detect, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity threats. You will play a critical role in strengthening the organization's security posture through advanced monitoring and incident response capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain Security Onion platforms and related tooling
• Monitor network traffic and security events to identify potential threats and anomalies
• Perform in-depth analysis of security alerts and escalate incidents as appropriate
• Develop and refine detection rules, dashboards, and workflows within Security Onion
• Collaborate with security teams to improve threat detection and response processes
• Document findings, procedures, and best practices for ongoing operational use

Required Skills

• Hands-on expertise with Security Onion (deployment, tuning, and administration)
• Strong background in cybersecurity and network security monitoring
• Familiarity with tools such as Zeek, Suricata, Elasticsearch, and Kibana
• Experience with threat hunting, incident response, and log analysis
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Compensation

This contract role offers a competitive hourly rate of $90–$175/hr, commensurate with experience and expertise.
