Senior SWE - Python / TypeScript at Turing

Senior SWE (Python / TypeScript) | Contractor | Remote – North America | ~40 hrs/week

Turing is seeking a high-judgment Senior Software Engineer to support cutting-edge AI model development through preference data work, rubric design, and pipeline engineering. This is a 3-month independent contractor engagement working alongside frontier AI researchers and engineers.

What You'll Do

• Design, refine, and iterate on rubrics and evaluation criteria for preference data
• Review and label data with a high bar for quality, identifying subtle issues others might overlook
• Build and maintain pipelines and infrastructure supporting data generation, collection, and evaluation workflows
• Synthesize findings from data work into clear write-ups, updates, and actionable recommendations
• Collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to translate qualitative judgment into scalable processes

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python (pipeline/infra development) or TypeScript (experience with large codebases like VSCode is a plus)
• Hands-on experience with preference data collection and/or rubric creation
• Excellent written and verbal communication — able to distill complex technical work into clear, actionable summaries
• Demonstrated high-taste judgment — able to articulate why something is good, not just that it is
• Comfortable operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with a bias toward shipping

Engagement Details

• Compensation: Market rate (please provide a specific hourly rate expectation)
• Availability: 40 hrs/week preferred; minimum 6-hour overlap with Pacific Time required
• Employment Type: Independent contractor (no medical or paid leave benefits)
• Duration: 3 months, starting as soon as possible
• Location: North America (fully remote)

Evaluation Process

One interview round (~30 minutes) covering technical skills and cultural fit.
