Simulated Research Reviewer (MechE & Mat-Sci) | $50–90/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science experts to evaluate simulated research environments for a leading AI laboratory. This is a flexible, part-time contract role lasting approximately 3 weeks, with an immediate start date and a final delivery deadline of June 26.

What You'll Do

You will review simulated research environments, each built around a seed (underlying simulator or dataset). For each environment, you'll assess input data and 3+ agent trajectories — different prompts posed against the same seed, along with the model's full responses.

Your structured feedback will cover:

• Trajectory Summarization: Summarize what each agent did, how it reached its answer, and the scientific reasoning it applied.
• Problem Quality: Rate whether the problem represents a realistic scientific question requiring genuine domain expertise.
• Construction Quality: Assess context sufficiency, experiment utility, solvability, experiment selection, saturation/headroom, and scoring metric reasonableness.
• Question Diversity: Evaluate how varied the prompts are within each environment.
• Alternative Framing: Suggest more natural or compelling task formulations for the same underlying simulator.

Ideal Qualifications

• Degree: Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
• Research Experience: Hands-on background in computational simulation, experimental design, or scientific computing.
• Analytical Writing: Ability to deliver clear, structured, and technically precise feedback.
• Domain Depth: Strong command of core principles in your specialty area.
