Social Work Expert at Mercor

Social Work Expert | $40–55/hr | Remote | Contract

Mercor is seeking experienced clinical and macro social work professionals to help build realistic enterprise environments for frontier AI training and evaluation. As part of Project Atlas, you'll recreate the digital workspaces and workflows of modern social-services organizations — and design tasks that genuinely challenge state-of-the-art AI agents. This is a unique opportunity to directly shape the next generation of AI systems using your real-world expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Build high-fidelity digital workspaces modeled on your day-to-day tools — including case notes, assessments, service plans, referrals, progress reports, grant/outcome reports, and email threads
• Represent platforms such as Apricot (Bonterra), Salesforce Nonprofit, DocuSign, and SharePoint within the environment
• Design multi-step, realistic tasks grounded in your actual workflows that challenge frontier AI agents across multiple apps, files, and stakeholder interactions
• Collaborate asynchronously with fellow social work experts and research teams to refine task designs, evaluation criteria, and scenario realism
• Contribute directly to AI benchmarking research used by leading AI labs

Ideal Qualifications

• LCSW, LMSW, or equivalent state licensure (strongly preferred)
• 3+ years of full-time experience at a large hospital system, county DHS/DCF, or major nonprofit or behavioral-health organization
• Background in one or more of the following areas:
  • Clinical or medical social work (hospital, oncology, palliative, behavioral health)
  • Child or adult protective services and case management
  • School social work or juvenile-justice social work
  • Macro social work (policy, community organizing, program administration)
  • Substance-use or mental-health program operations
• Day-to-day proficiency with Salesforce Nonprofit, Apricot (Bonterra), DocuSign, and SharePoint/Box
• Strong analytical thinking and writing skills — able to translate social work practice into structured task specifications

Compensation

This role begins at an effective hourly rate of $40–$55/hr and will transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality output.
