Sociology Expert at Mercor

Sociology Expert | $60–$68/hr | Fully Remote | Part-Time (~20 hrs/week)

Mercor is seeking a knowledgeable Sociology Expert to author, review, and annotate technical tasks used to evaluate AI model performance on sociology-related problems. This is a flexible, remote opportunity ideal for researchers, academics, or policy professionals with a strong sociology background.

What You'll Do

• Author and review original problem sets grounded in demographic charts, social network diagrams, and survey data
• Write clear, well-reasoned reference solutions for sociology tasks
• Apply structured quality checks to ensure accuracy and rigor
• Annotate tasks used to benchmark AI model performance in sociology domains

Who We're Looking For

• Education: PhD in Sociology, or MA in Sociology with 3+ years of research, policy, or teaching experience, or BA in Sociology with 5+ years of applied experience
• Working fluency in at least two of: social theory, stratification, demography, qualitative methods, or quantitative methods
• Comfortable interpreting demographic charts, social network diagrams, and survey output
• Strong technical writing skills with the ability to articulate reasoning clearly and step-by-step

Compensation & Commitment

• Starting rate: $60/hr, with advancement opportunities based on task quality and throughput
• Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20 hours/week with a flexible schedule
• Location: Fully remote, hourly engagement
