Software Engineer - Multilingual Bug-Fix

Hourly Contract | Remote in US, Canada, UK, Australia, or New Zealand | $75-$100/hour

Mercor is seeking talented Software Engineers with experience across multiple programming languages and strong real-world debugging skills. In this remote, contract role, you will analyze authentic GitHub issues and pull requests to create high-quality bug-fix tasks that reflect the complexity of modern software development. Your work will directly support the training and evaluation of advanced AI systems for code repair and reasoning across diverse language ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze actual GitHub issues and pull requests to design bug-fix tasks

  • Demonstrate real semantic bugs with clear, minimal reproducible examples and validated fixes

  • Author and document tasks to train and evaluate AI systems on debugging and patch-based development

  • Work across multiple languages, such as C, C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, Ruby, Rust

  • Ensure tasks cover debugging, testing, and CI/CD pipeline integration

Ideal Qualifications

  • Proficiency in at least one major language: C, C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, Ruby, Rust

  • Hands-on experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects and real-world bug fixes

  • Familiarity with large-scale codebases, Git/GitHub workflows, and collaborative development

  • Demonstrated expertise in debugging, unit/integration testing, and patch submission

  • Based in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, or New Zealand

Job Details

  • Fully remote and asynchronous; flexible with your schedule

  • 10-20 hours per week, with potential to expand up to 40 hours per week

  • Initial project duration: 1-2 months, with possible extension

  • Start: mid to late August, rolling applications
