Technical Writer for Developer Documentation | $50–80/hr | Remote Worldwide

Mercor is partnering with a leading developer documentation team to enhance API documentation and technical content. This is a high-impact, 6-week contract opportunity for experienced technical writers specializing in API documentation, OpenAPI/Swagger, and developer-focused content.

Role Overview

Support critical technical writing and content validation tasks that directly impact developer experience. Work remotely with flexible hours on documentation that developers rely on daily. Minimum commitment of 30 hours per week over approximately 6 weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Import, validate, and enhance OpenAPI specifications for completeness and accuracy
• Write clear, developer-friendly descriptions for API endpoints, parameters, requests, and responses
• Create realistic code examples and document rate limits, pagination, and authentication patterns
• Generate and deploy HTML reference documentation using static site generators (Docusaurus, MkDocs, etc.)
• Transform Git logs and issue tracker data into user-friendly release notes
• Test and verify code samples, markdown syntax, and documentation links in pull requests
• Troubleshoot documentation build failures in CI/CD pipelines
• Update knowledge base articles with accurate screenshots, version information, and post-release changes

Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of technical writing experience in developer documentation roles
• Expert-level proficiency with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications and Markdown
• Strong experience with static site generators and documentation tooling
• Solid understanding of Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and link-checking tools
• Proven track record documenting APIs, SDKs, CLI tools, or developer interfaces
• Exceptional attention to detail in writing, syntax, and formatting
• Ability to produce concise, developer-focused content independently
