Sr. Python Engineer | Contractor | Remote – India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico

Turing is seeking an experienced Senior Python Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable APIs and backend services in support of cutting-edge AI research and enterprise AI deployments. This is a fully remote contractor role requiring at least 20 hours per week with 4 hours of daily overlap with PST.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with ML engineers to expose and maintain APIs for training, evaluation, and benchmarking workflows.
  • Write efficient, production-grade Python code with a strong emphasis on scalability and long-term maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, optimize data pipelines, and ensure smooth deployment of backend applications.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and manage PR merges to uphold engineering standards.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional Python development experience.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, implementing asynchronous programming, and managing the full API lifecycle from design through deployment.
  • Strong track record of identifying and mitigating risks early with a deep sense of ownership across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices: automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and scalable design patterns.
  • Familiarity with NumPy and Pandas; exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Engagement Details

  • Type: Contractor (no medical/paid leave benefits)
  • Commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week, at least 4 hours/day with PST overlap
  • Duration: 3 months (adjustable based on engagement)
  • Eligible Locations: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico

Evaluation Process

  • Technical interview (60 minutes) with a live coding challenge focused on Python.
