Tax Form Annotation Specialist | Contractor | Fully Remote | Up to 40 hrs/week

Turing is looking for a detail-oriented Tax Form Annotation Specialist to support AI training initiatives at the intersection of tax documentation and machine learning. In this role, you will annotate US tax forms using tools like Label Studio, extracting precise bounding box data and mapping field relationships to help build smarter document AI models.

Key Responsibilities

• Annotate tax forms (W-2, 1040, 1099, VAT returns, corporate schedules, etc.) using Label Studio or comparable platforms.
• Draw precise bounding boxes and apply structured label schemas to document fields.
• Map relationships and dependencies between form fields, including income lines, deductions, credits, and totals.
• Define and document field metadata including data types, format constraints, and validation rules.
• Review and validate annotation exports using JSON and YAML.
• Link related fields using relationship and edge tagging techniques.

Requirements

Tax & Domain Knowledge

• Solid understanding of tax form structures and field dependencies.
• Familiarity with IRS, financial institution, or equivalent tax authority guidelines.
• Ability to independently research and interpret unfamiliar form types.

Annotation & Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with Label Studio or similar annotation tools.
• Proficiency in bounding box annotation and structured labeling.
• Understanding of field-level data types: text, date, currency, checkbox, and enumerations.
• Familiarity with JSON/YAML for reviewing annotation outputs.
• Experience defining field schemas and validation rules.

Nice to Have

• Background in accounting, bookkeeping, or tax preparation.
• Prior experience creating training data for document AI systems.

Engagement Details

• Commitment: Up to 40 hours/week
• Duration: Approximately 1 month, with potential extension based on performance and project needs
