Turing is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Form Annotation Specialist to support the development of high-quality structured datasets from tax documents. This short-term freelance role blends deep tax domain knowledge with hands-on annotation tool experience to help advance cutting-edge AI systems in the accounting and finance space.

About Turing

Turing is one of the world's fastest-growing AI companies, partnering with leading AI labs to advance frontier model capabilities and building real-world AI systems that solve mission-critical challenges for global enterprises.

Role Overview

You will identify, label, and structure data fields within tax forms — ensuring accuracy, consistency, and correct field relationships. Your work will directly contribute to training high-quality AI models for document understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze tax forms to identify fields, structures, and dependencies
  • Define and apply annotation schemas (labels, field names, data types)
  • Accurately annotate documents using bounding boxes in tools like Label Studio
  • Map relationships between related fields (e.g., calculations, dependencies)
  • Validate annotation outputs (JSON/YAML) for accuracy and alignment with source documents
  • Document rules, assumptions, and edge cases to ensure annotation consistency

Requirements

Tax & Domain Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of tax form structures (W-2, 1040, 1099, VAT, corporate forms, etc.)
  • Familiarity with field relationships — income, deductions, credits, and totals
  • Ability to interpret IRS or equivalent tax authority instructions
  • Comfortable independently researching and understanding new form types

Annotation & Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Label Studio or similar annotation platforms
  • Proficiency in bounding box annotation and structured labeling
  • Understanding of data types: text, date, currency, checkbox, etc.
  • Familiarity with JSON/YAML for reviewing annotation outputs
  • Experience defining field schemas and validation rules

Nice to Have

  • Background in accounting, bookkeeping, or tax preparation
  • Experience with document AI or training dataset creation
  • Prior involvement in large-scale annotation projects

Engagement Details

  • Commitment: Up to 40 hours/week
  • Duration: ~1 month, with potential extension based on performance and project needs
  • Environment: Fully remote and flexible

Join Turing and work at the forefront of AI innovation in accounting and finance — contributing to impactful projects with global reach.
