About the Role
Mercor is partnering with leading AI research teams to develop next-generation physics capabilities in large language models. As an Undergraduate Physics Expert, you’ll evaluate, refine, and validate AI-generated solutions across fundamental and applied physics, ensuring both conceptual depth and mathematical rigor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Training & Validation

    • Critically assess AI-produced answers to physics problems of varying complexity

    • Verify derivations, computational results, and conceptual explanations

    • Detect and correct errors in reasoning, unit consistency, and mathematical formalism

  • Content Development

    • Design training scenarios spanning introductory physics through advanced graduate-level topics

    • Craft problem sets and review guidelines for both theoretical and experimental contexts

  • Quality Assurance & Feedback

    • Ensure adherence to SI units, notation standards, and physical conventions

    • Cross-reference solutions with authoritative sources (e.g., Feynman Lectures, Landau texts, Physical Review)

    • Provide structured, actionable feedback on methodology and conceptual understanding

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (or in-progress) degree in Physics, Applied Physics, or related field

  • Strong command of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and tensor analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely

  • Experience teaching, tutoring, or competing in physics competitions is a plus

  • Availability to contribute 20–40 hours per week over a 1–4 week engagement
