VFX & Compositing Supervisor at Mercor
posted 1 day agoVFX & Compositing Supervisor | $70-110/hr | Remote (US)
About the role
A leading AI lab's GenAI team is building generative video models aimed at feature-quality visual effects and preproduction: micro detail, physically plausible simulation, clean multi-layer integration, previs and concept art. They are hiring experienced VFX and compositing supervisors, FX and CG specialists, previs supervisors and concept artists to help define what excellent VFX work looks like and to judge where the models get it right or wrong.
This is a W-2 employment position with Cincinnatus LLC, with the opportunity to be placed at a leading AI lab as part of their extended workforce.
What the work involves
- Set the quality bar: define clear standards and an artifact taxonomy for micro detail, multi-layer integration, physics, previs and concept art, and critique current evaluations.
- Curate benchmarks: identify, generate and curate strong examples of excellent and genuinely hard VFX, simulation, previs and concept work, and test early model capabilities against them.
- Critique model outputs: review generated footage frame by frame and write precise, actionable notes on temporal instability, compositing seams, spill, physics and fine detail.
- Shape the reviewer pool and captions: help define how human reviewers are vetted and calibrated, and review captioning guidelines so VFX, physics and preproduction detail is described accurately.
- Collaborate with other experts to keep evaluations consistent and accurate.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in feature VFX, animation or virtual production.
- Credits on 2+ professional films.
- Background in at least one of: VFX Supervisor, Compositing Supervisor or Lead Nuke/Flame Compositor; FX Technical Director or CG Supervisor (fluids, pyro, cloth, hair); Previs or Postvis Supervisor; or Senior Concept Artist, Matte Painter or Visual Development Artist.
- A meticulous eye for temporal instability, compositing seams, spill, physics and micro detail.
- Hands-on use of generative tools to create concept art, previs and test samples for comparison.
- Strong written communication: the ability to turn VFX, physics and preproduction detail into precise language for captions and evaluation templates.
- Ability to engage reliably for approximately 40 hours/week during weekdays.
- Nice to have: reliable access to a 4K display for pixel-level review.
Pay, schedule and location
$70-110/hr. Full time, approximately 40 hours per week during weekdays. Remote, based in the United States.
