Vocational Training Expert at Mercor

Vocational Training Expert | $40–55/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs on Project Atlas — an initiative to build realistic enterprise environments where frontier AI agents are trained and evaluated. We're looking for experienced vocational and workforce-training professionals to help recreate authentic digital workspaces and design tasks that genuinely challenge state-of-the-art AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Build a realistic digital workspace mirroring your day-to-day tools — including curricula, competency rubrics, lesson plans, apprentice records, credentialing paperwork, and email threads — with representation of supporting apps such as Google Classroom, Google Forms, and SharePoint.
• Design multi-step tasks grounded in real workflows that require navigating multiple apps, files, and stakeholders in ways that meaningfully challenge frontier AI agents.
• Collaborate with other vocational and workforce-training experts to design environments, shape task scope, and review scenarios for realism and rigor.
• Work asynchronously with research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria for workforce-training agent benchmarks.
• Contribute directly to frontier AI research — your work informs how leading labs train and evaluate the next generation of AI systems.

Ideal Qualifications

• 3+ years of full-time experience at a large community college system, major union training trust, or Fortune 500 corporate training/L&D organization.
• Background in one or more of the following areas:
  • Curriculum and instructional design for skilled trades or technical programs
  • Apprenticeship program administration (DOL/state-registered)
  • Competency-based assessment and credentialing (NOCTI, NCCER, etc.)
  • Workforce development policy and funding (WIOA, Perkins)
  • Corporate training/L&D with a technical or manufacturing emphasis
• Day-to-day proficiency with platforms such as Google Classroom, Google Forms, and SharePoint or Box.
• Strong analytical thinking and writing skills — able to translate complex training workflows into structured task specifications.

Compensation

This role begins at an effective hourly rate of $40–$55/hr, with a planned transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality output.
