Analytical Chemist – AI Red-Teaming | $65–75/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is building a panel of chemistry and chemical safety experts to evaluate and stress-test frontier AI models. This task-based contractor role is ideal for experienced analytical chemists who can identify the fine line between legitimate technical inquiry and potential misuse — and articulate that distinction clearly in writing.

What You'll Do

• Write challenging single-turn prompts across three categories: benign, dual-use, and adversarial
• Evaluate AI-generated responses against defined policy standards and judge whether each was handled appropriately
• Author reference answers — including the correct response and the technical reasoning behind it

Ideal Background

We're looking for practitioners with hands-on experience in hazardous compound analysis who understand what detection limits truly imply. Relevant experience includes:

• Detection and identification of hazardous compounds using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, IR, or NMR
• Method development and validation for trace-level analysis
• Environmental, occupational, or emergency-response sampling and analysis
• Reference standards, spectral libraries, and unknown compound identification
• Laboratory accreditation, QA/QC, and proficiency testing

Beyond Technical Expertise

This is writing-intensive work. Every judgment requires a clear, well-reasoned rationale accessible to non-specialists. Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is a strong asset — please include a writing sample or link in your application.
