FP&A Domain Expert at Mercor

FP&A Domain Expert (Financial Forecaster) | $70–110/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking a seasoned FP&A professional with deep, hands-on experience in Financial Forecaster to help evaluate and improve AI-agent performance in real-world financial planning and lender-reporting scenarios. This is a high-impact contractor role for practitioners who use Financial Forecaster weekly as a core part of their work.

What You'll Do

• QA AI agent runs in Financial Forecaster — verify that agents select the correct scenario, account, coordinate, accounting basis, and deliverable
• Identify failure modes — pinpoint where agents succeed too easily or fail incorrectly, and flag tasks that don't require genuine tool use
• Improve task realism and difficulty — refine prompts and seeded environments to reflect authentic FP&A and lender-reporting work
• Sharpen grading guidance — ensure correct answers pass and wrong ones fail, including gating failures such as wrong vintage, excluded add-backs, or conclusions copied from source documents
• Catch plausible-but-wrong answers — identify numbers stated at the wrong grain or conclusions that are locally correct but inconsistent with the broader reporting pack

Key Knowledge Areas Required

• Multidimensional models: navigating dimensions, account hierarchies, and reading cube slices at exact coordinates
• Scenarios: creation, parent inheritance, locking, and identifying the forecast of record by lock or acceptance date
• Accounts & assumptions: distinguishing input from calculated accounts; knowing when to edit a formula versus override an assumption cell
• CSV imports: loading actuals and driver data with proper unit and scale discipline
• Note surfaces: scenario notes, driver notes, policy notes, assumption change logs, and variance commentary — and where each belongs
• Measure types: GAAP vs. non-GAAP vs. covenant measures; reconciliation discipline; forecast vs. projection under AICPA PFI guidance
• Credit agreement mechanics: frozen GAAP provisions, Test Periods, FCCR, total net leverage, Consolidated EBITDA add-backs, borrowing base, and compliance certificates
• Relevant standards: ASC 205-40, ASC 280, SAB 99/Topic 1M, Release 33-10751, Reg S-K Item 303
• Document types: compliance certificates, borrowing base certificates, lender packages, board pre-reads, earnings releases, and disclosure committee memos

Requirements

• Weekly, hands-on use of Financial Forecaster for real forecasting, covenant, or reporting work in a current or recent role
• 5+ years of professional experience in FP&A, financial reporting, technical accounting, or lender/treasury reporting
• Ability to read a Financial Forecaster model on sight — distinguish inputs from calculations, spot overrides, and identify the governing scenario and its vintage
• Reflexive familiarity with scenario mechanics, import workflows, and scale/basis traps that produce confidently wrong numbers
• Strong judgment on what constitutes a correct, complete answer — and the confidence to mark a plausible answer wrong

Bonus Qualifications

• Credit agreement compliance and borrowing base reporting experience
• Going concern or impairment analysis background
• Segment reporting or SEC/disclosure committee experience
• Hands-on experience across multiple models and entities

A CPA, CFA, or MBA is welcome but not required. Experienced FP&A analysts and technical accounting specialists are the primary candidate pool.
