Sonic Audit Specialist (French) | $41.50/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking native and near-native French speakers to audit AI training data for Amazon's Sonic collections. This is careful, detail-oriented listening and quality assurance work — not content production. If you have a sharp ear, a disciplined approach to rubric-based evaluation, and strong English writing skills, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

You will work across two Amazon Sonic audit collections:

  • Multilingual Transcription Audit: Listen to recordings of human or agent speech, review the transcription produced by an annotator, and judge whether it accurately reflects what was spoken. Apply a fixed set of error codes, assign a pass/fail verdict, and write a concise rationale for each decision.
  • Forced Alignment Audit: Review audio that has been segmented at the word level by an automated system. Verify that start and end timestamps correctly match each spoken word, and that the reference transcription matches the spoken form. Correct boundary errors by splitting, merging, adding, or removing segments as needed.

Each task runs at 5.00 audit hours, and every judgment requires a written explanation — this is precision work, not volume work.

Who We're Looking For

  • Native or near-native French (France variety): You were raised in a French-dominant region or have five or more years of full immersion. This is a hard requirement.
  • Strong English reading and writing: All conventions, error codes, and rationale are written in English. You must be comfortable reading detailed rulebooks and writing clear, professional feedback.
  • Disciplined rubric application: You apply written standards consistently across hundreds of judgments rather than relying on instinct. Experience in transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA is a strong advantage.
  • Careful listening skills: You can distinguish similar sounds, identify word boundaries in continuous speech, and differentiate genuine acoustic ambiguity from clear annotator error.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation experience
  • Background in phonetics or linguistics
  • Familiarity with audio editing or waveform tools

How It Works

You listen, judge, and submit. When errors are found, you tag all applicable error codes — not just the first — and explain clearly why a task passed or failed. Critical errors are flagged first so the failure reason is immediately clear. A short calibration phase is completed before production work begins.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
