Sonic Audit Specialist (Hindi) | $18/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking native and near-native Hindi speakers to audit AI training data as part of Amazon's Sonic audit collections. This is careful, detail-oriented listening and evaluation work — not content production. You will assess the accuracy of transcriptions and audio alignments, applying structured rubrics and writing clear English rationales for every judgment.

About the Role

You will work across two distinct audit collections, each running at 5.00 audit hours per task:

  • Multilingual Transcription Audit: Listen to recordings of human or agent speech, review annotator-produced transcriptions, and determine whether they accurately reflect what was spoken. Apply a defined set of error codes, assign a pass or fail verdict, and write a concise rationale explaining your decision.
  • Forced Alignment Audit: Review audio that has been segmented at the word level by an automated system. Verify that start and end timestamps correctly correspond to each spoken word, and that the reference transcription matches the spoken form. Correct boundary errors, split or merge segments, and add or remove segments as needed.

Who We're Looking For

  • Native or near-native Hindi speaker (as spoken in India) — born and raised in a Hindi-dominant region, or fully fluent with 5+ years of residence there. This is a hard requirement.
  • Strong English reading and writing skills — all rulebooks, error codes, and audit rationales are in English.
  • Disciplined rubric application — ability to apply written standards consistently across hundreds of judgments.
  • Careful, precise listening — able to distinguish similar sounds, identify word boundaries in continuous speech, and differentiate acoustic ambiguity from clear annotator error.

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Prior experience in AI data annotation or model evaluation
  • Background in phonetics, linguistics, transcription, subtitling, or localization
  • Familiarity with audio editing or waveform tools

What to Expect

You will listen, evaluate, and submit structured judgments. Every error must be fully tagged with all applicable error codes, and your rationale should clearly explain the outcome — with critical errors highlighted first. A short calibration phase precedes production work to ensure alignment with quality standards.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
