Audit Domain Expert (CaseWare OnPoint) at Mercor
posted 2 hours agoAudit/SSARS Domain Expert (CaseWare OnPoint) | $70-100/hr | Remote | Hourly contract
About the role
Mercor is hiring a domain expert to evaluate accounting work and AI outputs against professional standards. This is hourly contract work, paid $70-100/hr, done remotely.
Who qualifies
To qualify, you must use CaseWare OnPoint (PCR or Audit), CaseWare Working Papers, or comparable engagement software regularly as part of your job, with 3+ years of public accounting experience on compilation, review, or audit engagements.
Core knowledge required (all candidates)
- Choosing and running the right engagement under SSARS: preparation vs. compilation vs. review, and what each requires and permits
- Evaluating independence and when an impairment changes what report can be issued
- Performing and documenting review procedures: analytical procedures with real expectations and thresholds, and inquiry that resolves fluctuations
- Working the engagement file: trial balance mapping, adjusting entries, workpapers, checklists, sign-offs, and when a sign-off is unsupported
- Drafting and modifying the accountant's report (going concern, GAAP departures, lack of independence, emphasis of matter)
Specialized depth (strong working knowledge in at least 2-3)
- Small-entity audits under AU-C (risk assessment, materiality, sampling)
- Financial statement preparation and disclosure checklists, including special-purpose frameworks (cash and tax basis)
- Engagement quality management (SQMS) and peer review readiness
- Not-for-profit, governmental, or employee benefit plan engagements
- Engagement letters, representation letters, and client communications
What you'll do
- Confirm that a workpaper, adjustment, or report conclusion is supported by the engagement file and professional standards, not just completed
- Catch unsupported sign-offs, unresolved analytical fluctuations, misclassified adjustments, and changes outside the task's scope
- Judge completeness: whether all required procedures and checklist steps for the engagement type are done
- Distinguish "the checklist is ticked" from "the report can be issued"
- Verify that requests that should be refused (e.g., issuing a review report while independence is impaired, signing off without evidence) are refused rather than forced through
Requirements
- Regular use of CaseWare OnPoint, CaseWare Working Papers, or comparable engagement software in your current or recent role
- 3+ years of public accounting experience on compilation, review, or audit engagements, at senior level or above
- Working command of SSARS and AU-C; can spot an unsupported conclusion or the wrong report type on sight
- Active US CPA license strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge in at least 2-3 of the specialized areas above
- Prior data annotation, labeling, or AI evaluation experience is a plus
