Scientific Computing Expert (Life Sciences) | Contract, 5 weeks | Remote, 4-hour PST overlap

About the Role

Turing, a company providing training data, evaluations, and engineering talent to frontier AI labs, is looking for computational life sciences experts to develop complex, realistic tasks for agentic AI systems. You will design tasks where AI agents must independently navigate scientific data, write and execute code, use computational tools, troubleshoot intermediate results, and produce scientifically valid outputs — evaluating whether AI can perform authentic multi-step scientific work.

What You Will Do

  • Design challenging agentic scientific workflows across the life sciences, requiring multiple computational steps rather than single scripts or simple question-answer solutions.
  • Develop realistic input files, scientific datasets, instructions, constraints, and expected deliverables.
  • Build tasks requiring agents to inspect data, select methods, execute analyses, troubleshoot problems, and synthesize results.
  • Create reproducible expert solutions, verifiable ground truths, and robust automated or semi-automated grading criteria.
  • Validate scientific assumptions, calculations, code, and outputs, ensuring tasks run in controlled, network-isolated environments.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., postdoctoral, or equivalent research experience in the life sciences.
  • Strong scientific programming experience, particularly in Python.
  • Prior experience as a POD-lead on projects.
  • Ability to independently validate both scientific reasoning and computational outputs.
  • Expertise in one or more of: bioinformatics, computational genomics, systems biology, computational neuroscience, biostatistics, computational drug discovery, computational biochemistry, structural biology, protein engineering, or computational microbiology.

Schedule and Terms

  • At least 6 hours per day, minimum 40 hours per week, with a 4-hour overlap with PST.
  • Contractor assignment: 5 weeks, expected start next week.
  • No medical or paid leave.
