Agent Engineer | $100–$500/hr | Worldwide Remote | Task-Based Contract

Mercor is seeking experienced engineers who have built and operated LLM agents in production environments — people with real, hands-on visibility into how AI agents are deployed and used inside organizations. This is a paid interview opportunity: qualified candidates who complete a live conversation with our team are compensated $100–$500 upon completion, depending on depth of experience.

What We're Looking For

You've likely done some or all of the following:

  • Shipped an agent that real users depended on — and been accountable when things went wrong.
  • Developed methods to evaluate whether an agent improved or regressed after a change.
  • Operated agents beyond a single request lifecycle: scheduled jobs, long-running workflows, and cloud sandbox environments.
  • Observed internal AI assistant adoption firsthand — understanding who embraced it and who quietly didn't.

Areas of Deep Interest

We're particularly focused on the layers that rarely get discussed publicly:

  • Internal monoagents integrated with company data and workflows
  • Shared company memory and persistent agent context
  • Reusable skills, playbooks, and agent orchestration patterns
  • Tool and MCP surfaces that agents interact with
  • Observability: understanding what agents did, why, and what it cost

The Process

  1. Conversational AI Screen — A short, no-code, no-take-home interview. We want to hear how you think about agent reliability, evaluation, and adoption. Bring specific, messy war stories from real systems.
  2. Live 30-Minute Conversation — If your screen stands out, you'll be invited to speak directly with our team. You are paid $100–$500 upon completion of this call.

Every submission is reviewed. If you've built agents that real people relied on and have the scars to prove it, we want to hear from you.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
