Finance Domain Expert — AI Training & Evaluation | $50–$90/hr | Bay Area, CA (Primarily Remote)
Join a leading AI lab's GenAI research team and play a central role in shaping how frontier AI models understand and reason through real-world financial work. This is a full-time W-2 position with Cincinnatus LLC, embedded within a top-tier AI lab's extended workforce.
About the Role
We are seeking a senior finance domain expert to work directly alongside AI researchers and program managers, improving the financial reasoning capabilities of cutting-edge AI models. Your expertise will define what "correct" looks like — from writing golden solutions to designing rigorous benchmarks that measure genuine model improvement.
This is not a generalist role. We are looking for a practising finance specialist with deep, demonstrable expertise in a core finance discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Data QA & Review: Evaluate the quality of finance knowledge tasks and model outputs — identifying missing behaviors, flawed assumptions, thin reasoning, and answers that sound plausible but wouldn't survive professional scrutiny.
- Instruction Specs & Golden Datasets: Write high-quality instruction specifications, produce authoritative solutions to financial problems, and define new finance tasks grounded in real professional practice.
- Benchmarks & Evaluation Design: Build challenging finance evaluation sets and domain-specific skills assessments in collaboration with the research team.
- Calibration: Translate tacit financial judgment into explicit, teachable criteria and maintain consistent standards across researchers and adjacent specialists.
Core Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of dedicated professional finance experience at a recognized institution (investment bank, asset manager, PE/credit fund, Big Four, corporate finance, or financial regulator).
- Domain Depth: Genuine specialization in at least one core area — corporate finance/FP&A, investment banking/M&A, asset/wealth management, private equity/credit, quantitative finance/risk, treasury, or accounting/audit.
- Seniority: Demonstrated progression to a senior IC or leadership level (VP, Director, Principal, MD, Portfolio Manager, Controller, or CFO) with real ownership of analysis and decisions.
- Education & Credentials: Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD in finance, economics, accounting, or a quantitative field) and/or a recognized credential such as CFA, CPA, FRM, or actuarial designation — strongly preferred.
- AI Fluency: Hands-on experience using large language models in a professional context, with the judgment to distinguish well-reasoned answers from convincing-sounding errors.
- Availability: Able to commit to 40 hours per week for an initial 6-month engagement.
- Location: Must reside in the Bay Area, CA and be available for occasional on-site visits.
