Litigation Associate | $180–200/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced Litigation Associates on behalf of a leading AI lab developing a benchmark to evaluate advanced AI systems on realistic legal research tasks. In this role, you will help build a high-quality dataset of practitioner-driven legal research questions that reflect the complexity of real client matters — not bar-exam-style hypotheticals.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft well-scoped, realistic legal research questions grounded in litigation contexts
• Mirror real client-driven issues including motions practice, procedural disputes, evidentiary issues, and appellate standards
• Craft questions that require identification and synthesis of controlling authority, jurisdictional analysis, and application of precedent to fact patterns
• Avoid abstract academic hypotheticals — focus on questions answerable through professional legal research
• Produce clearly framed, structured questions consistent with practitioner standards

Requirements

• 4–7+ years of experience at a reputable law firm in a litigation practice
• Strong background in substantive legal research
• Experience drafting research memoranda, briefs, or dispositive motions
• Familiarity with jurisdiction-specific precedent analysis
• Clear, structured, and professional writing style

Nice to Have

• Federal clerkship experience
• Appellate or complex litigation background
• Prior involvement in AI, legal tech, or dataset development projects
