Network Engineer – AI Data Annotation | $50–70/hr | Remote (US & Canada)

A cutting-edge infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Level 3 / Tier 3 Network Support Engineer to help label, annotate, and structure real-world networking data that will power the next generation of AI-driven infrastructure systems. This is a unique opportunity to apply your deep troubleshooting expertise to a high-impact data science initiative.

What You'll Do

  • Review and analyze real-world network data — including logs, configurations, telemetry, and event streams — from deployed production environments.
  • Label and classify network behaviors, anomalies, incidents, and issue patterns to build high-quality training datasets.
  • Collaborate with the client team to define schemas and data structures for large-scale ML pipelines.

You're a Strong Fit If You

  • Currently work as a Level 3 / Tier 3 or Principal Support Engineer, handling on-call rotations, root cause analyses (RCAs), final escalations, and outage troubleshooting — required.
  • Have hands-on experience supporting end-customer enterprise networks (switches, APs, firewalls) across industries such as retail, healthcare, finance, manufacturing, or hospitality — required.
  • Possess strong enterprise Wi-Fi/wireless proficiency, including Cisco WLC, Aruba, or Meraki controllers, 802.1X/RADIUS, and wireless troubleshooting — required.
  • Perform packet-level analysis using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, or SPAN captures.
  • Are curious about how raw infrastructure data is transformed into machine learning input.

Role Details

  • Hours: 30–40 hours/week, overlapping Pacific Time (PT) business hours.
  • Contract type: Individual 1099 — no corp-to-corp or agency billing.
  • Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in the US or Canada without sponsorship.
  • You will interface directly with the client team.

Note: This is a network maintainer role. It is not suited for those primarily focused on network design/architecture, cloud/SRE, security/SOC, or IT helpdesk work.

Your contributions will directly shape how intelligent systems reason about real-world networks — a meaningful role at the intersection of infrastructure expertise and AI development.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
