Organic Chemistry & General Chemistry Experts (MS/PhD) Hourly Contract (Remote) • $59.50/hour

About Mercor Mercor is a leading recruitment partner for top AI labs, specializing in sourcing subject matter experts who shape the future of AI development. Backed by notable investors such as Benchmark, General Catalyst, Adam D’Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey, our team is committed to excellence, precision, and impactful collaboration.

Role Overview We are looking for experienced Chemistry Experts—both Organic Chemistry Specialists and Chemistry Generalists—to develop and refine high-quality undergraduate-level chemistry questions designed to test and evaluate AI models. Organic Chemistry Specialists will primarily focus on organic chemistry prompts, while Generalists will contribute across multiple disciplines including Analytical, Physical, Biochemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Question Review: Evaluate chemistry questions to ensure they test critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and conceptual understanding across diverse chemistry topics.

  • Solution Validation: Solve, verify, and validate answers, confirming their accuracy and clarity, and ensuring questions stimulate analytical reasoning rather than memorization.

  • Difficulty Calibration: Classify and refine questions according to their difficulty level (Easy, Medium, Hard), ensuring appropriate complexity and intellectual engagement.

  • Real-World Application: Develop prompts that reflect practical, real-world chemical applications, avoiding trivial or excessively theoretical scenarios.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain the highest standards of chemical accuracy, clarity, and realism in question creation, eliminating ambiguity and unrealistic assumptions.

Ideal Candidate Profiles

Profile 1: Organic Chemistry Specialist

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry.

    • Expertise in reaction mechanisms, retrosynthesis, stereochemistry, and spectroscopic techniques (NMR, IR, MS, UV-Vis).

    • Proven experience in organic chemistry research or teaching.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.

    • Prior experience evaluating AI-generated chemistry content.

Profile 2: Chemistry Generalist

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • M.Sc. in Chemistry or a related discipline.

    • Competency in solving complex problems across Analytical, Physical, Biochemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry.

    • Proven research or teaching experience in at least one of these fields.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related fields.

    • Experience assessing AI model-generated responses in chemistry.

Application & Onboarding

  • Complete a brief 5-minute AI-based interview to assess your skills in creating quality chemistry questions.

  • Successful candidates will be promptly invited to join the project.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation at $59.50 per hour.

  • Fully remote, flexible hourly contract.

  • Collaborative environment contributing to cutting-edge AI research.
