Visual Quality Expert (Film, VFX & Animation) | $60–90/hr | Remote (US)

Join a leading AI lab's GenAI team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI-generated imagery. We're looking for seasoned visual quality professionals from film, VFX, animation, and high-end photography to evaluate and refine AI model outputs at the pixel level. This is a part-time W-2 position (approx. 20 hrs/week) through Cincinnatus LLC, embedded within a top-tier AI lab's extended workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate high-resolution video and stills at pixel level, identifying compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, grain-structure inconsistency, and over- or under-sharpening.
  • Flag output that diverges from professional image-quality standards with precise, actionable feedback.
  • Design and refine evaluation templates and rating guidelines to ensure consistent quality assessment across reviewers and edge cases.
  • Translate complex visual observations into clear, structured descriptive language for data captions and evaluation frameworks.
  • Generate your own visual samples for targeted testing and side-by-side comparisons.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and program leads to maintain visual consistency across sequences and review teams.

Core Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in high-end visual evaluation across film, VFX, animation, or professional photography.
  • Direct professional experience in at least one of the following roles:
    • VFX Supervisor — elite eye for pixel-level flaws and visual artifacts
    • Rendering Supervisor — experienced running dailies and owning final image quality
    • Lighting Supervisor, Lead, or Artist — deep expertise in illumination and digital cinematic motion
    • Colorist — skilled in color grading, artifact detection, and sequence consistency
    • Director of Photography / Cinematographer — critical evaluator of sharpness and high-resolution image quality
    • Effects or Surfacing Artist — strong command of textures, materials, and visual simulation
    • High-End Photographer — expert in lighting dynamics, depth of field, and color artifacts
    • Director — particularly with crowd and background action experience
    • Digital Projectionist — trained eye for final-output fidelity and visual anomalies
  • Degree or training from a respected film, VFX, or digital media program.
  • Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor for precise pixel-level evaluation.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, including generating visual samples for testing.
  • Fluent in English with the ability to articulate complex visual details clearly and precisely.
  • Available for 20 hours/week with working hours overlapping the PST–EST window.
