Senior Backend Engineer | $45–65/hr | Remote (US Only)
Join a high-scale consumer platform team building the backend services powering digital experiences used by millions of users daily. This is a W-2 position with Cincinnatus LLC, embedded within a leading enterprise technology client's engineering organization.
About the Role
You'll work alongside Engineering, UX, Product, Business, and Analytics teams to ship features rapidly, iterate through continuous experimentation, and integrate cutting-edge Generative AI capabilities into production services. We're looking for senior backend engineers with deep hands-on experience in Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust who understand how the web works at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of scoped features through collaborative engineering teams, keeping work aligned with platform objectives.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality services in Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust across the full software lifecycle and CI/CD pipelines.
- Build and optimize server-to-server integrations and API layers (REST and GraphQL) serving high-traffic, customer-facing applications.
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities into product services and leverage generative AI tools to boost engineering productivity.
- Contribute to solution design, conduct thorough code reviews, and champion best practices for scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
- Monitor application performance, support defect resolution, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor peers and contribute to knowledge sharing and engineering excellence across the team.
Core Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems at a recognized, high-scale organization (or a Bachelor's in Computer Science with 3+ years).
- Hands-on production experience with Node.js and TypeScript on the backend.
- Hands-on Rust experience in production services, performance-critical modules, or substantial systems work.
- Strong web fundamentals: HTTP semantics, cookies, headers, caching, sessions, and server-to-server communication patterns.
- Experience building or operating high-traffic, consumer-facing web platforms.
- Demonstrable career progression to senior-level ownership and accountability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to broad audiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience with GraphQL on Node.js (schema design, resolvers, federation).
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards.
