Healthcare LIS Domain Expert at Mercor
posted 1 hour agoHealthcare LIS Domain Expert | $70-100/hr | Hourly contract | Remote
Work as a domain expert reviewing laboratory information system workflows, with a focus on Dendi LIS, for AI training and evaluation tasks. You will use your hands-on clinical laboratory experience to confirm that lab work in the LIS is correct and releasable.
What You'll Do
- Confirm that an accession, result, or report in the LIS is correct and releasable, not just entered
- Catch results released despite a QC failure, missed reflex or confirmation tests, mismatched specimens, and changes to records the task did not ask to touch
- Judge completeness: whether all tests on the order, all specimens, and all required notifications are handled
- Distinguish between "the LIS accepted it" and "a lab director would sign off on it"
- Verify that a request that should be refused (such as releasing a result with failed QC, or editing a released result without a corrected report) is refused rather than forced through
Required Skills
- End-to-end accessioning: order entry, specimen labeling, requisition and insurance capture, and specimen rejection criteria
- Reviewing results before release (QC status, delta checks, critical values, instrument flags) and knowing when a result must be held
- Reflex and confirmation testing (for example, screen-positive to confirmation in toxicology) and when one should have been triggered
- Tracing a specimen and its chain of custody through the lab, and catching mislabeled or mismatched specimens
- Corrected and amended reports, and who must be notified when a released result changes
Specialized Depth (at least 2-3 areas)
- Toxicology (immunoassay screening, LC-MS/MS confirmation, cutoffs)
- Molecular, PCR, and infectious disease testing
- Pharmacogenomics (PGx)
- Clinical chemistry and hematology
- Instrument interfacing and LIS configuration (test codes, panels, reference ranges)
- Billing and medical necessity (CPT, ICD-10, ABN)
- CLIA and CAP compliance and inspection readiness
Requirements
- Frequent use of Dendi LIS or another LIS (e.g., Orchard Harvest, Epic Beaker, Sunquest, Cerner PathNet, LabWare, XiFin) — weekly or more — in your current or recent role
- 2+ years of experience in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory
- Can spot a QC failure, a missed reflex, or a mislabeled specimen on sight
- MLS/MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent state licensure; lab supervisor, LIS analyst, or lab director experience is a plus
- Strong working knowledge in at least 2-3 of the specialized areas above
- Prior data annotation, labeling, or AI evaluation experience is a plus
