posted 5 hours agoMechanical Design & Analysis Domain Lead (CAD/CAE Expert) | Contractor | 8 weeks, 40 hrs/week | Location not specified
About the Role
Turing, a San Francisco–based company working with frontier AI labs and global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems, is looking for an experienced mechanical design and analysis expert to help build datasets that train and evaluate AI models against real-world mechanical engineering workflows.
You will turn complex physical engineering challenges—spanning conceptual 3D parametric CAD, CAE simulation (FEA, CFD), DFM/DFA, and physical testing—into structured test problems, define grading criteria, and diagnose why state-of-the-art AI models succeed or fail.
What the Work Involves
- Convert real-world mechanical engineering challenges into structured test scenarios with defined inputs, requirements, kinematic/geometric constraints, and verified reference solutions.
- Design scoring rubrics and programmatic validation rules for automated task verification (e.g., stress concentrations, mesh convergence, boundary conditions, tolerance stacks, GD&T adherence).
- Assess AI agent behaviour to diagnose and analyse failure modes.
- Design and manage automated and human-expert-in-the-loop QA/QC workflows.
- Recruit and coordinate teams of internal and external engineers to build and scale training and evaluation datasets.
Who It's For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering, or a closely related physical discipline.
- 15+ years of industry experience delivering hardware from concept to production in top-tier automotive, aerospace, or advanced precision engineering environments.
- Deep expertise across the end-to-end mechanical product lifecycle: 3D parametric CAD modeling, DFM/DFA, GD&T, FEA/CFD simulation, prototype testing, and failure analysis (FMEA).
- Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard CAD and CAE tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, ANSYS, Altair HyperWorks, or Abaqus).
- Proven ability to turn complex, open-ended mechanical workflows into structured, verifiable problem statements with clear ground-truth criteria.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating distributed teams of engineers.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
